I haven’t been posting much simply because we have been busy. However, I have to share tonight’s harvest of pumpkins and gourds!

To be honest, we weren’t hopeful because the plot is full of weeds and it isn’t a place we want to spend our time. Needless to say, we are overjoyed even if the harvest is less than we had originally hoped!

Hi there; I am McKinley Worley. My wife, Ashley, and I operate Abounding Acres, LLC in mid-Missouri, USA. We have 3 sons that love being involved on the farm (see picture 1).

Our journey to a market gardening started when Ashley jokingly sent me a Craigslist ad for a high tunnel. Long story short, we went to look at the high tunnel and ended up buying it (see picture 3)! We put up the high tunnel, largely by ourselves, in 2020. Our third son was born in late 2020 and we spent the 2021 growing season learning and growing food for our family. We watched The Market Gardener’s Toolkit movie more times than I can count and our copy of The Market Gardener book is very well loved!

In the beginning of 2022, we put up a propagation tunnel and established 5 field plots. This year, is our first growing season where our primary intent is on selling high-quality, nutrient dense food to consumers. While it has been successful, we also realize that we have a lot to learn. For the 2023 season, we want to increase our growing space to 1 acre. The #themarketgardenerscholarship will allow us to dive deep into the teachings of JM and become better, more efficient growers.
